NAMIBIA

Namibia is also the epicenter of adventure sports in the region, so whether you are a dreamer or a tireless walker, the journey through this country will remain in the memory even if you spend a lot of time.

WHAT TO DO IN NAMIBIA?

Etosha National Park

If you want to see wild animals during your vacation in Namibia then the park is the perfect place. From the desert to the savannah through the forests, the landscape of Etosha is varied and abundant wildlife.

With 5,000 square kilometers, the biggest attraction is the Etosha Salt Flat, which for most of the year is a vast expanse of white; with gleaming mirages and silhouettes of animals in the distance in search of water on the banks of the salar.

The Himba

The word Himba means “beggar.” Currently the tribe lives in the Namibian desert trying to keep their traditions intact after passing through centuries of hardships, persecutions and interference by Westerners. In spite of this, they resist calmly taking care of their cattle and receiving the visit of some travelers that take them products of first necessity like flour. In our safari “The Okavango Route” we are lucky to visit a Himba village.

Lüderitz

With a German style architecture of the early 1900s during the time of the diamond boom, it has become a major tourist attraction it, has a “natural bay” and the Benguela current of the Atlantic Ocean attracts a variety of birds and marine life.

The most notable feature of the coast, often shrouded in mist, is what is known as Bogenfels, a rock arch that rises almost 30 m above the waves of the Atlantic that was a terminal of a private rail line that ran along the coast connecting the diamond mines before the first war.

The Waterberg Plateau

It rises 200 m above the surrounding plains. With a savannah covered with acacias in the plains and thick forests on the slopes and at the top, the area has a great diversity of natural habitats. It is a paradise for the rare antelope species of Namibia.

The park offers two trekking excursions, one is free accompanied by a guide and the other is by a demarcated path. The Cheetah Conservation Fund is a combination of several animal farms that contribute to the breeding and rehabilitation of these magnificent cats; and the AfriCat Foundation.

Caprivi

It is a paradise of wetlands, wide permanent rivers lined with papyrus and palm trees and the area extends to the exuberant alluvial plains and thick forests typical of the tropics. Here the wildlife is abundant, attracted by the permanent water points, where you can see large numbers of elephants, buffalos, hippos, lions and wild dogs.

Coast of the Skeletons

The name of the Skeleton Coast comes from long ago, long before the skeletons were the steel shells of modern ships, the galleon woods were already rotting, and not only that, not a few human skeletons found here their eternal repose, the skeletons of the unfortunate sailors, those shipwrecked who came to the shores believing they had found salvation at the cry of “land” … but instead found a desert, 200 km inland, in which they would die of hunger and thirst trying to flee from their ships stranded in the sand forever.
