BHUTAN

The spiritual and profound world of Buddhism through its traditional peoples
of ancestral customs and their monasteries on the slopes of the Great
Himalayas, that’s Bhutan

WHAT TO DO IN BHUTAN?

Punakha Dzong

It is the second largest dzong and the second largest in Bhutan and one of its most majestic structures. The dzong houses the sacred relics of the south of the Drukpa lineage of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism, including the Rangjung Kasarpani and the sacred remains of Ngawang Namgyal and the tertön Pema Lingpa.

Punakha Dzong was the administrative center and seat of the Government of Bhutan until 1955, when the capital was transferred to Thimphu.

Taktshang

It is a monastery in Bhutan. It is located on a cliff at 3120 meters above sea level (700 meters to the bottom of the valley). The name means Tiger’s Nest. The monastery is an important sacred place for Himalayan Buddhism and includes seven temples.

Thimphu

Thimphu Drubchen the masked dances known as cham and popular dances are performed to bless the spectators, to teach them the Buddhist Dharma, to protect them from misfortune and to exorcise all evils. It is believed that the merit is obtained by attending these parties. The dances invoke the deities to end misfortunes, increase good luck and grant personal wishes.

Apart from its religious implications, the festival is also an annual social gathering in which people dress up in their best clothes and jewelries. It brings you closer contact with the local people and gives you insight into the life of Bhutan, beliefs and more.

Buda Dordenma

At the top of a hill in Thimphu, the capital and the largest city of Bhutan, is a huge golden Buddha seated, crossed legs, on top of a meditation room also gilded, Inside there are up to 125,000 Buddha statues in miniature.

Paro

The landscapes of Bhutan are usually “improved” with temples or dzongs-a mix between a fortress and a Buddhist temple that looks like something out of the earth. For us, undoubtedly, the most spectacular is the tiger’s nest, Taktshang, hanging on a cliff over 700 meters high near Paro. So much so, that we include it among another of the magical temples of Butánoes Dochula, with its 108 stupas and its temple on top of a hill.
