ARMENIA

Its monasteries, cities and towns are just the excuse to set a destination

WHERE TO GO IN ARMENIA?

Geghard Monastery

The Geghard monastery is part of the list of World Heritage monuments of UNESCO. The monastic complex, excavated in the rock and surrounded by gorges, was founded in the 4th century by Gregory the Illuminator, the founder of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

Tatev Monastery and Wings of Tatev

The Tatev monastery is possibly the most spectacular place to see on a trip to Armenia. Perched on a ledge above the Vorotan river gorge, the Tatev monastery was built in the 9th century and housed one of the most important medieval universities in Armenia. In the courtyard, next to the buildings of the complex, is Gavazan Siun, a column of 8 meters high built in the tenth century, which acts as a pendulum and serves to alert of the smallest earthquake, giving the first signs of attention to a possible earthquake.

Ereván (Yerevan)

Armenia is a country of emigration; the one who lives in the villages moves to Yerevan, and the one who lives in it has his head in Russia. Thus, the capital grows and the interior, impoverished and without hope, empties. The Kentron neighborhood and the surroundings of Republic Square show you a modern and opulent image, with its wide avenues for which it is not uncommon to see luxury cars, shopping malls, western food chains, glamorous cafes and nightclubs, but the vast majority of the more of a million people in the city live quite far from this bubble.

Noratus Cemetery

The cemetery of Noratus is one of the places to see in Armenia if you want to know more about the culture of the country. It is the largest meeting of jachkar in the country with a total of 900. A jachkar is a memorial stone engraved exclusively of Armenian art in which details of the life of the person for whom it is dedicated are related.
